HENRI MATISSE

Born in 1869 in Cateau-Cambrésis and dead in 1954 in Nice, Henri Matisse is unanimously regarded as one of the largest artists of the XXth century.

He begins legal studies, passes his certificate entitling holder to practise in the legal profession in Paris in 1888, took up his career as clerk in a solicitor in Saint-Quentin in 1889. Immobilized during one year by the complications of appendicitis, he discovers the pleasure of painting. Matisse found his vocation. Forsaking the legal profession, he is registered at the Julian Academy. Since 1901, he do some exhibitions at the Independent Exhibition. It is in 1907 that he paints Naked blue, the most of the expressionist of his painting. He becomes one of the promoters of the fauvism.
