PHILIPPE PÉTAIN

Born in Cauchy-with-the-Turn in 1856, of a father farmer, Philippe Pétain makes his studies with the college of the Jesuits and Dominican then the school of the officers of Saint-Cyr military school. General during the First World War, he remains the winner of Verdun. Appointed Marshal of France in 1918, it occupies successively the posts of vice-president of the higher council of the war (1920), general inspector (1922), member of the French action (1929), inspector of air defense (1931), elected with the French Academy (1931), elected with the Academy of Science morals and policies (1934), Minister for the war (1935), minister of state (1935), ambassador in Spain (1939), minister of state and vice-president of the council (1940) before becoming president of the council and Head of the French State.

Stopped in 1944, Philippe Pétain is condemned to died and not carried out because of his great age. He dies in the island of Yeu in 1945.
