NOTRE-DAME DE LORETTE

Number Y&T 2010

The church has a Romano-Byzantine style. On the furnace bridge, an inscription drawn from the book of the kings is reproduced: Venerate, ô Israel, these which fell immolated on your hills. Before the first world war, many pilgrims went on the hill. Now, a planted cemetery of 1 900 crosses occupies the hill, with in the center a basilica and a turn-lantern. The turn-lantern contains 6 000 bodies and the body of unknown soldiers of the 2nd War and the Indo-China war. Seven other ossuaries placed at the ends of the cemetery shelter the remnants of 22 970 exhumed unknown soldiers of the surroundings.
