CHARLES GEORGES DELESTRAINT

Born in Biache-Saint-Vaast in 1879, the General Charles George Delestraint is officer from Saint-Cyr, as Philippe Pétain whom he opposed. He illustrated himself during the First World War where he adhered to the modern offensive war founded on the armour preached by De Gaulle who was his closer collaborator in Metz. Even if he is retired since 1939, he takes again service as soon as the Second World war begins. In 1942, he accepts the mission that de Gaulle entrusts to him that consists in coordinating the actions of all the resistance networks armed in France: it will be the secret Army.

Unfortunately, he is arrested on June 9, 1943. He will know the interrogations of Gestapo, then the camps where he is sent. April 19, 1945, whereas the American troops are with a few kilometers of the camp of Dachau where he is held, he is executed on order of Himmler.
