It remains only little of trace of the antiquity of Lens, the war of 1914-1918 having practically all destroyed. However the city still draws up its Saint-Léger church whose dome with pinnacles dominates the city.

The dynamism of Lens remains dictated by that of the coal basin. Even if the wells since closed, Lens is ready to take up the economic challenges and in particular that of football with its team. The city in addition accomodated many philatelic demonstrations.
